Your DGB for today is to listen to the October 18th episode of The Daily podcast.
Many DGB staffers start their morning with The Daily, a podcast from The New York Times, hosted by Michael Barbaro. There’s a good chance that Barbaro is the most empathetic man to ever host a podcast. His voice soothes us each morning, even when we are listening to absolutely terrible news like what’s going on with the Rohingya people in Myanmar, or the horrific details of what Harvey Weinstein has done. You can find the podcast for Apple devices here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/the-daily/id1200361736?mt=2&ign-mpt=uo%3D4 and for Android devices here: https://play.google.com/music/listen?t=The_Daily&pcampaignid=MKT-na-all-co-pr-mu-pod-16&u=0&view=/ps/Iehqox2qhdcfny46lfzjqdrcobq
Today, we want you to listen to a recent podcast about Shannon Mulcahy, a steel worker with a heart of gold, and how her factory closed and moved to Mexico, the compassion she had for those she had to train, and why she voted for Trump. We don’t want this to be another think piece on why we should sympathize with Trump voters. DGB often feels like these people deserve exactly what they get, which is shit, for believing in Trump. We are asking you to listen today so that we can understand exactly why some people, who aren’t #MAGA racists, voted for Trump and what we can do, as liberals, to earn their votes back.
After listening to this podcast, which is more than five minutes of daily action...we apologize, we suggest subscribing to The Daily, if you aren’t already subscribed. It’s a great way to start your day and always keep up with the latest stories and support some amazing journalism.
