No Nukes

Your DGB for today is to call your members of Congress and urge them to support H.R. 669, a bill aimed at preventing Donald J. Trump from killing us all.

In the ‘60s and ‘70s, “no nukes” was a rallying cry against nuclear power plants. In 2017, it’s an entreaty to POTUS: “Pretty please, don’t push the button one night in the middle of a temper tantrum about football players or war widows, or a particularly bad golf game.” But, because appealing to reason rarely works with this dude, Congressman Ted Lieu (CA-D) and Senator Ed Markey (MA-D) have introduced a bill that would prevent Trump (or any president) from launching a nuclear-first strike without congressional approval. Since most of us don’t have a cold war-era bunker in our back yard, we think this is more than sensible legislation. Since we have a president who has demonstrated an inability to behave like a rational grown-up, we think the time is NOW. Seriously, folks - this is scary. Please call your representatives and senators to ask them to support H.R. 669.

You can use Countable, Resistbot, or a good, old-fashioned phone call to let your reps know that we think a single unstable man in the Oval office shouldn’t have first-strike capability.
