Time’s Up, Assholes

Your DGB for today is to support the Time’s Up organization and its mission to help women in all sectors of society fight back against sexual assault, sexual harassment, the people who perpetrate it, and the people who enable it.

Unless the bomb cyclone took out your cable this weekend, you probably saw the parade of amazing women wearing black at the Golden Globes to bring attention to the ubiquitous problem of sexual harassment in the workplace, and rape culture at large. But more importantly than looking fierce on the red carpet, these women are using their relative privilege and wealth to help folks who have significantly fewer resources than your average celebrity: food service workers, farm workers, office drones, and everyone in between. They have started a legal defense fund that will “provide subsidized legal support to women and men who have experienced sexual harassment, assault, or abuse in the workplace and while in pursuit of their careers.” Successful women turning around and giving a hand up to others is the kind of thing that gives staffers at DGB the warm-fuzzies.

If you can afford to donate a few dollars to the fund, please do. If not, see how you can amplify the voices of activists and survivors via the #metoo and #timesup hashtags on social media. As Oprah said, “A new day is on the horizon, and when that new day finally dawns, it will be because of a lot of magnificent women and some pretty phenomenal men fighting hard to make sure they become the leaders that take us to the time when nobody ever has to say, ‘me, too’ again.”

And please, if you or someone you know needs it, here is the number for RAINN’s national sexual assault hotline: 1-800-656-HOPE
