The company, in turn, used this data to help the Trump campaign in the 2016 election. While both companies claim they committed no wrongdoing we can all agree that it’s shady as h-e-double-sippy-straws to mine personal data without the knowledge or permission of the people being profiled. So what is a person to do? The extreme option of leaving Facebook is simply not open to most of us. Whether we like it or not, the platform is a huge source of communication and information. We found this suggestion to be helpful and we encourage you to follow it. And do what you can to stay anonymous. Keep your profile information sparse and don’t link your apps to Facebook (or any other social media site).
