#DGB #TBT Flint

What will you be drinking today? Whatever it is, one thing you probably won’t be worried about is whether or not your water is safe to consume or cook with. Unless you live in Flint, MI.

The city is about ⅓ of the way through a lawsuit-mandated pipe- replacement project and at least one former official will stand trial on charges of manslaughter stemming from bacterial outbreaks. Insultingly, people are still receiving municipal water bills, at one point even being told to let their water run continuously in order to help “coat” the insides of new pipes.

At this point, residents have been victimized and lied to so many times, many will probably never trust the water again. Would you? Free bottled water programs were shuttered, but many people are still using bottled water. No one should have to be afraid to give their child a glass of water.

While nothing is going to undo the damage to an entire community, your DGB for this Thanksgiving Throwback Thursday is to spread some knowledge and resources.

Flint residents can both apply for free lead testing and for help with their water bill.

For insight into how this all happened, read The Poisoned City by Anna Clark @annaleighclark

Your DGB for this Throwback Thursday is to check out this previous Grab, because hey, here we are again. The GOP is going to try and ram another sexual predator down our throats, and this time the fellow is going to have his job - deciding the issues for all Americans - for the rest of his damned life. Isn’t that swell? If you think we sound a little angry, you’d be a lot right. The GOP appears to be deaf to the cries from the #MeToo movement, blind to the lessons of the Anita Hill testimony, and insensitive to the experiences of millions of survivors. It’s enough to make a girl want to scream or maybe rage-binge an entire sheet cake.

Instead of posting a pic under the hashtag #MeAt14, this time we’d just like you to donate to RAINN, the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network. And if you need to, avail yourself of their resources. Help is available 24/7 at 1-800-656-HOPE (4673).

#DGB #TBT Bail Out

If you missed yesterday’s Grab, check it out here:

Like Kalief Browder’s, many a story could have a very different end if an accused person’s family is able to make bail after arrest. Your DGB for this Throwback Thursday is to donate to bail funds or volunteer to work at ending the cash bail enterprise in the United States.

For further reading on the major flaws in the system, see here:

#DGB #TBT Fighting Racism with Bystander Training

Your DGB for this Throwback Thursday is to brush up on your bystander training.

Recent videos keep surfacing of racists being racist, so we need to make sure we know what to do if and when a situation like that arises.

https://www.ihollaback.org/resources/bystander-resources/ offers bystander resources and focuses on the the five Ds: Direct, Distract, Delegate, Delay, and Document. You can also sign the pledge, support Hollaback, and become a HeartMobber, which is an online bystander interventionist.

See our first Grab on this subject here:

It’s not enough to just not be racist; we must actively fight racism in everyday situations by being active bystanders.

#DGB #TBT School Shootings are Real

Your DGB for this Throwback Thursday is to tell Trump to use his Twitter fingers to take down InfoWars.

More than a year has passed since this Grab asking Trump to disavow nutjob Alex Jones and his Sandy Hook conspiracy bullshit:

Since then, a Florida woman was sentenced to five months in prison for making death threats against the father of Noah Pozner, age six, who was murdered at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Alex Jones has championed the spread of conspiracy theories surrounding the tragedy, leading to incidents like this. Parents, including Pozner’s father, have now sued Jones for defamation.

As far as Jones’ relationship with Trump, it seems to be a bit strained these days, with Jones’s recent unhinged crying and swearing at the president over Syria strikes. Considering that Trump has flown into a Twitter rage at just about everyone from Ruth Bader Ginsburg to Kristen Stewart, surely he can denounce Alex Jones over his “Fuck you, Trump”- if not for the 20 schoolchildren and tortured survivors of the Sandy Hook Massacre that was DEFINITELY REAL, BTW- then for his own fragile ego.

Let @realDonaldTrump know that someone has insulted him. You can also contact your favorite White House correspondent and encourage them to ask Sarah Huckabee Sanders for Trump’s response to Jones and/or the recent lawsuit.

#DGB #TBT Don’t Let Congress Gut the ADA

Your DGB for this Throwback Thursday is to contact your senators and tell them to vote no on H.R. 620, a bill that would gut the Americans with Disabilities Act.

We’ve written about H.R. 620 before. This legislation would allow businesses to ignore the needs of disabled Americans until and unless those Americans jump through a bunch of hoops and beg for accomodation. That runs contrary to the whole purpose of the ADA and is not how a civilized nation cares for its citizens. Last Thursday, this wretched bill passed the House and is now headed to the Senate.

We urge you to call, write, or use Resistbot to contact your senators and urge them in the strongest possible terms not to vote in favor of H.R. 620.

#DGB #TBT Guns

Your DGB for this Throwback Thursday is to see this Grab and this one and this one and also this one. Oh, and this one and this one and this one.

There have been eighteen school shootings in US schools in the seven weeks of 2018, eight of them resulting in injury or death. DGB has written about gun control activism many times, with blood donation thrown in for good measure because it’s not a matter of “if”, but rather when and where this will happen again. This is the worst kind of Throwback: a preventable nightmare that just keeps repeating itself in a macabre loop of thoughts and prayers and dead children.

DGB staff are all moms. Moms who woke up today and sent our children to school without knowing with absolute certainty if we’d see them again. We no longer know how to even write about this; our hearts and minds frozen in fear and desperation.

#DGB #TBT Mick Mulvaney

Your DGB for this Throwback Thursday is to contact the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau with your disapproval.

We told you Mick Mulvaney would be horrible for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau back when he took it over, here: https://www.dailygrabback.com/todays-grab-1/2017/11/28/defend-the-consumer-fraud-protection-bureau?rq=Mick%20Mulvaney

He sucks as much as one would expect of a guy who, as a congressman, once introduced legislation to abolish the bureau he now runs. Currently, he’s put a hold on a rule restricting predatory payday lending- not a surprising move from someone who accepted campaign donations from such lending companies. Yes, the head of the organization meant to protect consumers from shady companies is buddy-buddy with them. Swamp update: very very not drained.

Today, you’ll give the CFPB a piece of your mind about Mulvaney’s conflicts of interest @CFPB on Twitter or on their website.

#DGB #TBT Dumb Border Wall

Your DGB for this Throwback Thursday is to remind your representatives not to allow funding for a border wall into any budget.

Last May, DGB outlined some of the reasons the wall is a terrible idea here: https://www.dailygrabback.com/todays-grab-1/2017/5/4/a-boy-and-his-wall?rq=wall

Unsurprisingly, a year later, there is no wall and Mexico is definitely not paying for it. There’s also trouble in paradise lost, with General John Kelly trying to walk back the wall promises and Stable Genius over in the Oval digging in his heels on Twitter. Trump is also insisting that any spending package from Congress that protects Dreamers under DACA must also include wall funding.

Use Resistbot to make it clear that we aren’t paying for any wall. DGB suggests budgeting a set of Legos or Lincoln Logs for the President instead, so he can work through his rudimentary problem-solving skills.

#DGB #TBT Women’s March

Your DGB for this Throwback Thursday is to support Women’s March organizers in their 2018 initiative.

On January 21, 2018, one year after the first Women’s March on Washington, Power to the Polls will kickoff in Las Vegas, followed by a national voter registration tour.

You can attend an anniversary event, donate, or shop their store to revisit the magic of last year’s Women’s March and move forward to the change we want to see in 2018.

#DGB #TBT No Nukes

Your DGB for today is to revisit our previous Grab and call your congress member and demand they support Ted Lieu’s Bill H.R. 669, that limits Donald Trump’s access to nuclear weapons.

The past couple days have been both insanely embarrassing and terrifying. It started with the leader of North Korea stating that he had a button to launch nuclear weapons on his desk and culminated in our very own president disgustingly and embarrassingly saying that his “nuclear button” was much bigger and more powerful. We all know know he has not used his button in a really long time, how does he even know? WHAT IS THIS LIFE???

Now it is more important than ever to limit his access to nuclear weapons. We can’t continue this pissing contest with North Korea at the risk of millions of lives because a senile old man likes to say everything he does is bigger and better. Now might also be the time to ask congress to start looking into 25th amendment because it’s not like his mental health is getting any better.

#DGB #TBT Recycle Holiday Decor

Your DGB for this Throwback Thursday is to dispose of your holiday decorations responsibly.

If you’re like us at DGB, the warm feelings you had toward your holiday decorations have waned and you’re ready to throw them out the front door.

Last year’s list of resources for socially-conscious disposal can be found here: https://www.dailygrabback.com/todays-grab-1/2016/12/29/dispose-of-holiday-decorations-responsibly and you could see a tiger play with your Christmas tree.

Or find some other cool ideas in this article: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/12/26/us/christmas-tree-recycling.html

#DGB #TBT Flint, Michigan

Your DGB for this Throwback Thursday is to keep Flint, Michigan’s bottled water program running.

Flint has been without safe tap water for 1,336 days now in what continues to be a massive infrastructure failure. Pipe replacement is still underway in many places. The tap water is allegedly testing closer to safe levels of metals in some areas, leading to threats to reevaluate the state-run bottled water program by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality. https://www.theroot.com/flint-state-may-reconsider-free-bottled-water-program-1821141898

Employees of this office have been criminally charged in the #FlintWaterCrisis, striking plea deals as recently as this week, so forgive us if we give them the side-eye.

Today, you’ll tweet @MichiganDEQ to let them know we see them and they need to keep safe drinking water available to the humans they’re charged with protecting.

#DGB #TBT Open Enrollment Period

Your DGB for today is to review this ACA Grab because tomorrow is the last day to sign up during the Open Enrollment Period.

We all know how hard the Trump administration is working to destroy anything and everything Obama has done, but particularly Obamacare. Despite these efforts, 650,000 more Americans have signed up for healthcare through the ACA this year than at this time last year, but numbers will be down because Trump cut the enrollment period in half.

If you need insurance or know of anyone who needs it, there is still time. Sign up today and tomorrow. With Trump as President, who knows how long Americans will have readily available access to insurance, so get it while you can!

#DGB #TBT Sanctuary Cities

Your DGB for this Throwback Thursday is to donate to the ACLU in support of Sanctuary Cities.

Our first Grab on Sanctuary Cities was back in February, on the heels of a January 25th Executive Order lording federal grants over the heads of city governments with the audacity to not turn citizens over to federal immigration authorities. https://www.dailygrabback.com/todays-grab-1/2017/2/3/block-the-threat-to-sanctuary-cities?rq=sanctu

Since then, federal judges in Chicago and San Francisco have dealt blows to the order, rendering it essentially void unless appealed or amended.

These are huge victories, but it won’t end here. Give another dollar to the ACLU to help them keep fighting the never-ending reincarnations of bans, walls, and raids.

Find a list of Sanctuary Cities, Counties, and States here:

Your DGB for this Throwback Thursday is to make friends with JDoe.

Back in May, we brought you this Grab on the sexual assault report and support website. In light of the #MeToo revolution, DGB finds this resource particularly relevant. Legal help, which they offer, makes victims 300% more likely to report a sexual assault.

It’s kind of like having your own personal Detective Olivia Benson at the ready.

#DGB #TBT Black Owned Friday

Your DGB for this Throwback Thursday is to support Black owned and operated businesses.

Earlier this year, we gave you a resource to find Black, locally-owned places to give your business. Sadly, it is taking a lot longer to expand the directory than developers originally thought. (Even more tragically, we included a Bernie quote in this Grab. We plead PETSD- Post-Election Traumatic Stress Disorder.)

Fortunately, there are other ways to locate businesses, such as http://www.blackbusinesslist.com/ and http://www.blackbusiness.org/

Get ready to make this year a Black owned Black Friday.

#DGB #TBT Thanksgiving Table-talk

Your DGB for this Throwback Thursday is to refresh your memory on how to talk about politics over your mom’s green bean casserole.

It’s been almost a year now since that first turkey day after The Election That Shall Not Be Named, when the wound was oh-so-fresh and so was our desire to leap across the table and stab Aunt Mildred with a fork for her Trump vote. It’s been a fun year, huh? [cue hysterical laughter] The feelings of shock may have faded, but now we have a laundry list of ways the Trump administration has been every bit the nightmare we feared, plus a few we didn’t see coming. And many of us STILL have to break bread this holiday season with the MAGA crowd. So it’s a good idea to remind ourselves how to have discussions that might make a real impact.

The staff here at Daily Grab Back will be doing the same. And we will be counting our blessings, not the least of which are all you Grabbers who take the time to make a difference - thank you. As for you, Aunt Mildred? You’re still on our naughty list.

#DGB #TBT Rick Perry

Your DGB for this Throwback Thursday is to revisit the awfulness that is Rick Perry.

Last Year, we opposed the nomination of Perry to the post of Energy Secretary. https://www.dailygrabback.com/todays-grab-1/2016/12/24/reject-rick-perrys-nomination?rq=Rick%20Perry

Today, he’s just as dim as we thought he’d be, with his “fossil fuel prevents rape” nonsense. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/white-house/rick-perry-says-fossil-fuels-can-prevent-sexual-assault-n816896

Plenty of Trump officials have resigned, so let’s keep up the agitating. Here’s the contact info for the U.S. Department of Energy: https://www.energy.gov/contact-us
