Blue Wave

Nancy Pelosi Forevah

Your DGB for today is to support Nancy Pelosi in her bid for Speaker of the House. Call your Member of Congress or MoC-elect and tell him or her you want Nancy to hang on to the gavel.

Here’s an object lesson in sexism: Chuck Schumer, who as Senate Minority Leader presided over losses in his chamber this November, faces zero calls to resign his speakership. On the other hand, Nancy Pelosi, who has lead the Dems to historic WINS in the House, is being raked over the coals by some of her Democratic colleagues. They are calling for “new leadership” and threatening to oust her if she doesn’t step aside voluntarily. Because that’s how you treat a seasoned warrior who just delivered a big fat blue wave, we guess…? The most depressing thing is how readily some on the Democratic side of the aisle are willing to regurgitate right-wing talking points when it comes to strong, outspoken women.

In response to calls for Nancy’s head on a platter, many groups have come out in support of her -, Planned Parenthood, dreamers (remember when she filibustered for 8 hrs in stilettos on behalf of DACA?), Human Rights Campaign, eleven labor unions, and League of Conservation Voters. And why not, she’s a badass who clearly terrifies the right and as Speaker she. is. killing it.

Yes, We Did

Your DGB for today is to come up for air and pat yourself on the back.

Don’t let anyone tell you there was no Blue Wave yesterday. We had high expectations for these midterm elections, and yes, our boyfriend Beto lost. However, in NO WAY does that equal failure.

Not only did we take the House of Representatives, but we can celebrate many historic firsts this week.

In Colorado, Jared Polis became the nation’s first openly gay governor.

In New York, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez became the youngest woman ever elected to Congress at 29.

The first Muslim women ever elected to Congress are Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ilhan Omar of Minnesota. Imagine Mike Pence swearing them in.

Connecticut and Massachusetts elected their first Black congresswomen in Jahana Hayes and Ayanna Pressley, respectively.

Maine and South Dakota both elected their first female governors: Janet Mills and Kristi Noem.

Texas’ first Latinx congresswomen are Veronica Escobar and Sylvia Garcia.

The first Native congresswomen in the US will be Sharice Davids of Kansas (who is also gay) and Deb Haaland of New Mexico.

Tennessee’s first woman senator is Marsha Blackburn. Meh.

The first women ever elected to the House of Representatives in Iowa are Abby Finkenauer and Cindy Axne.

Overall, our nation voted in a record number of women and minorities and representation is ALWAYS something to celebrate. Brag it up.

Flip the House: West Virginia

Your DGB for this weekend is to elect a West Virginia democrat to the House of Representatives.

Richard Ojeda (D) is running against Carol Miller (R) in a race for the 3rd district that is a virtual tie despite being in a crimson red area. Help out Ojeda below.

Save Endangered Democrats Part 2

10-24EndangeredDemocrats copy.jpg

Your DGB for today is to donate to a progressive candidate before the trick-or-treating begins.

Missouri’s Claire McCaskill is currently trailing her challenger.

In Montana, Trump is still pissed at Jon Tester for taking down Ronny Jackson and is going hard for his opponent. Tester is still up slightly, but can’t afford to slip.

Countdown to Midterm Elections: 6 Days

Flip the House: Washington

Your DGB for this weekend is to elect a Washington democrat to the House of Representatives.

With current seat-holder Dave Reichert retiring, District 8 has the opportunity to elect Kim Schrier in this toss-up rated race.

Countdown to Midterm Elections: 11 Days

Flip the House: Virginia

Your DGB for this weekend is to elect Virginia democrats to the House of Representatives.

All four Virginia districts holding elections for the House of Representatives in November are flippable, which is great news. Donate a dollar to each democratic woman below. If you can only donate to one campaign, DGB recommends Leslie Cockburn because we’ve never seen a candidate with a name so perfectly suited to being the theme of 2018 midterms/our new favorite verb.

District 2, Elaine Luria

District 5, Leslie Cockburn

District 7, Abigail Spanberger

District 10, Jennifer Wexton

Countdown to Midterm Elections: 18 Days

Flip the House: Utah

Your DGB for this weekend is to elect a Utah democrat to the House of Representatives.

This race has recently been categorized as a toss-up, having previously polled very well for the GOP. Now, Utah’s 4th District incumbent Republican Mia Love faces a tough reelection campaign next month. Donate to her competitor, Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams, here.

Revisit Those Flippable Senate Seats

Your DGB for today is to give democratic senate candidates in four crucial states a last minute push.

Feel free to look back at our Flip A Senate Seat series on these candidates or donate below.

Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona (Coward Jeff Flake’s seat)

Jacky Rosen of Nevada (Dean Heller’s seat)

Taylor Swift-endorsed Phil Bredesen of Tennessee (Bob Corker’s seat)

Beto O’Rourke of Texas (Zodiac Killer’s seat)

Countdown to Midterm Elections: 27 Days

Flip the House: Texas

Your DGB for this weekend is to elect Texas democrats to the House of Representatives.

Lizzie Pannill Fletcher is running in District 7

Gina Ortiz Jones is running in District 23

Colin Allred is running in District 32

And, while we’re talking Texas, don’t forget to do what you can for Beto in his Senate race against Unconvincing Human-Costumed Probable Serial Killer.

Flip the House: Pennsylvania

Your DGB for this weekend is to elect Pennsylvania democrats to the House of Representatives.

Mandatory redistricting in Pennsylvania adds to the intrigue this November, with ten new elections taking place across the state.

New District 7 is without an incumbent. Help Susan Wild win the seat.

Matt Cartwright will defend his blue seat in District 8.

And in District 17, Conor Lamb (of March’s Special Election fame) will need a boost to unseat Keith Rothfus.

Flip the House: Ohio

Your DGB for this weekend is to elect Ohio democrats to the House of Representatives.

In Ohio’s District 1, incumbent Republican Steve Chabot faces young challenger Aftab Pureval.

In Ohio’s 12th district, incumbent Troy Balderson is challenged by moderate Democrat Danny O’Connor

Flip the House: North Carolina

Your DGB for this weekend is to elect a North Carolina democrat to the House of Representatives.

May saw big drama in North Carolina’s 9th District with Incumbent Republican Robert Pittenger having the undesirable distinction of being the only such candidate to lose his party’s primary. GOP candidate Mark Harris will instead face Democrat Dan McCready in November.

Support his campaign below

Flip the House: New York

Your DGB for this weekend is to elect New York democrats to the House of Representatives.

Most incumbents in New York look like they’ll be holding onto their seats, red and blue alike. There are, however, two flippable seats in the tossup category this November. Both need social media followers and donations.

Antonio Delgado is trying to unseat John Faso in District 19

And Anthony Brindisi is challenging Claudia Tenney in District 22

Flip the House: New Jersey

Your DGB for this weekend is to elect New Jersey democrats to the House of Representatives.

New Jersey is a special state this November because it has four flippable seats. With New Jersey 5 a safe bet for incumbent Democrat Josh Gottheimer, republicans can get almost completely swept out on election day.

Support District 2 candidate Jeff Van Drew here:

Andrew Kim is running in District 3:

Tom Malinowski faces a tough race in District 7:

And damn qualified Mikie Sherrill is ready to take District 11:

Flip the House: New Hampshire

Your DGB for this weekend is to elect a New Hampshire democrat to the House of Representatives.

Democrat Carol Shea-Porter is retiring from her position as representative from New Hampshire’s 1st District after just one term. Polling at republican +2 this is a serious race. Primaries take place September 11th and DGB is partial to Naomi Andrews, former Chief of Staff to Shea-Porter. Andrews is a Moms Demand candidate and outspoken critic of Trump.

Flip the House: Nevada

Your DGB for this weekend is to elect a Nevada democrat to the House of Representatives.

Sometimes flipping the House means hanging on to an already blue seat. Democratic incumbent Jacky Rosen is retiring this year, leaving the traditionally swing 3rd district vulnerable. Susie Lee is the democratic nominee and will face Republican Danny Tarkanian, who was handpicked by Trump to run. Help a sister out with a few bucks below.

Flip the House: Minnesota

Your DGB for this weekend is to elect Minnesota democrats to the House of Representatives.

Four out of five Minnesota House races need our attention this summer.

Minnesota 1 and 8 both see democratic incumbents retiring, pushing those races into tossup territory while districts 2 and 3 are both republican-held seats that we can flip. Primaries take place this coming Tuesday and you can support the following candidates:

Dan Feehan (District 1)

Angie Craig (District 2)

Dean Phillips (District 3)

District 8: A rather wide field of candidates. Pick your favorite here or wait until after the primary to commit:,_2018_Democratic_primary)

Flip the House: Michigan

Your DGB for this weekend is to elect Michigan democrats to the House of Representatives.

Out of the five seats up for election in Michigan this November, three are throwaway red seats, but two are all ours if we play our cards right.

In Michigan 8, Mike Bishop will likely face AFL-CIO and Joe Biden-endorsed Democrat Elissa Slotkin. Donate or volunteer here:

Dave Trott of Michigan 11 is retiring, setting up an open field of competition. Party primaries take place August 7, and you can find the democratic candidates here:,_2018_Democratic_primary)

Flip the House: Maine

Your DGB for this weekend is to elect a Maine democrat to the House of Representatives.

Maine has one seat up for reelection this year and it currently belongs to Bruce Poliquin, a comparatively moderate Republican who is trying to ride out the Trump presidency without making too many waves. That’s not good enough for the country and crappy for Maine.

Donate or volunteer for Democrat and current Maine State Representative Jared Golden and flip this seat blue.

Flip the House: Iowa

Your DGB for this weekend is to elect Iowa democrats to the House of Representatives.

It’s women vs old white guys this fall in the hawkeye state and DGB wants to make November 6th ladies’ night. Donate or volunteer!

In Iowa 1, Incumbent and Tea Party candidate Rod Blum is gearing up to lose to Democrat Abby Finkenauer, who is up by only a single percentage point in polls.

Iowa’s 3rd district flips the script with Incumbent David Young up by one point over Democrat Cindy Axne.
