Discrimination at 40,000 feet? NAACP and American Airlines

Your DGB for today is to support the NAACP’s travel advisory for American Airlines by boycotting the airline until the advisory is lifted, registering your disapproval with the airline, and/or spreading the word around on social media.

On Tuesday one of the country’s most venerated civil rights organizations, the NAACP, took the remarkable step of issuing a warning to Black travelers regarding American Airlines, that “booking and boarding flights on American Airlines could subject them disrespectful, discriminatory or unsafe conditions.” The airline appears eager to address these concerns, but we’d like to hold their feet to the fire. If it’s feasible (we know some markets don’t have many options), consider boycotting American - even if you are white. Perhaps *especially* if you are white. Let them know your feelings on the actions that led to this travel advisory through their website or by tweeting @AmericanAir. And by all means, if you witness or are the subject of discriminatory treatment by this or any airline, let the NAACP know.

It’s discouraging that racism is found, even at cruising altitude, but we can do something about it. Return your seats and tray tables to their upright positions and grab back.
