He disqualified himself five times over by age 18 and we need to end the nonsense already. Whether the FBI finishes their investigation this week or not, Mitch McConnell could throw a big boy tantrum and schedule a vote any day now. We are focusing on five undecided Senators. No Hearings, No Vote


Your DGB for today is to tell your senators we need a full FBI investigation of Brett Kavanaugh before any hearings take place.

As of the writing of this Grab, a third accuser has gone public with various appalling claims against the SCOTUS nominee. The time for negotiations, political posturing, and victim-blaming is over. We need a full investigation into Kavanaugh’s history or he needs to withdraw his name immediately, as all ten Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee insisted in a letter to Trump today.

Use Resistbot to contact your senators, ESPECIALLY if you live in Alaska, Arizona, Maine, or Tennessee, and tell them this process needs to come to a screeching halt.

Security for Christine Blasey Ford


Your DGB for today is to donate a few bucks to help Brett Kavanaugh’s accuser, Christine Blasey Ford, pay for private security. That’s right - Kavanaugh’s wife is passing out cupcakes to the press camped outside their home, while Dr. Ford and her family have had to go into hiding and hire bodyguards due to doxxing and death threats. Gee, we can’t imagine why more women don’t come forward. We make it so gosh-darned appealing to do so!

Anyway, private security is expensive and we don’t think Ford should have to pay a penny of it herself. So funnel your white-hot rage about how far we haven’t come since the Clarence Thomas confirmation hearings into action and donate. If the patriarchy won’t protect her, we’ll just have to do it ourselves. As usual.

Your DGB for today is to aggressively lobby Senators Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Susan Collins (R-ME).

Despite being the least popular nominee in a generation, perjuring himself, and being handpicked to prepare for a president with criminal liability, Brett Kavanaugh looks on track for confirmation to the highest court in the land. Big talkers like Ben Sasse, Jeff Flake, and Bob Corker appear to be lost causes in the fight for our democracy, leaving us to again rely on women to stand between us and aspiring dictator Trump. There are tons of reasons to vote against Kavanaugh, but we will be pushing Murkowski and Collins on reproductive rights. Neither want to see Roe overturned and we expect them to vote accordingly.

Short update on the Brett Kavanaugh nomination: the Trump administration is citing executive privilege to prevent Senators from reviewing hundreds of pages of his records and Trump is still an unindicted co-conspirator in at least one federal case.* To sum up, this remains a nomination by an illegitimate president with a coverup to push it through. Democracy, y’all.

Just kidding. This Grab is actually about Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court, Brett Kavanaugh.

In 2016, Mitch McConnell famously said “The American People should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice. Therefore, this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new president.”

We at DGB agree that the Senate shouldn’t confirm a SCOTUS nominee from an outgoing president, especially one obviously facing impending impeachment. Your DGB for today is to tell your senators Brett Kavanaugh is going the way of poor Merrick Garland-there will be no negotiation and no hearings.

Collins & Murkowski and the Future of Choice


Your DGB for today is to urge Senators Lisa Murkowski (AK-R) and Susan Collins (ME-R) in the strongest terms possible to vote no on SCOTUS nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh for retired Justice Kennedy’s seat. Given the current makeup of the Supreme Court, this administration’s ties to white evangelicals, and its tendency towards authoritarianism, we think it’s not hyperbole to suggest that Collins and Murkowski may be all that stands between us and some Handmaids-esque dystopia.

Reproductive choice is on the line. The Christian right has been waiting for this moment: a republican president, a republican-held congress, and a bunch of vacancies on the highest court in the land. This is the perfect storm, bringing with it a chance to tip the balance on the Supreme Court with conservative justices and finally overturn Roe v. Wade.

We already knew that Trump would be choosing his next Supreme Court nominee from a list provided by the Federalist Society, a conservative legal organization. Though Kavanaugh has been cagey of late about his views on abortion, his presence on the Federalist Society list means that they, at least, believe he would be anti-choice (among other unpleasant things). For more about the Federalist Society and the creepy mastermind behind it, read this terrifying piece in the Daily Beast.

We also know that Murkowski and Collins have gone on record in the past as pro-choice. But they can be wishy-washy. Collins famously broke her word not to vote for the tax cut bill, citing vague and spurious-sounding promises on the part of Mitch McConnell to “fix” the tax bill after it passed…? So we need to hold these ladies accountable to the principles they say they hold. We need their votes for the women of America to retain their rights to bodily autonomy.

Yes, we know the arguments against non-constituents calling members of congress. But this is so important, we just have to try flooding these women’s phone lines, in-boxes, and twitter feeds with pleas from all the people - non-Alaskans and non-Mainers included - whose lives will be impacted by how they vote during the confirmation process.
