Save Endangered Democrats Part 2

10-24EndangeredDemocrats copy.jpg

Your DGB for today is to donate to a progressive candidate before the trick-or-treating begins.

Missouri’s Claire McCaskill is currently trailing her challenger.

In Montana, Trump is still pissed at Jon Tester for taking down Ronny Jackson and is going hard for his opponent. Tester is still up slightly, but can’t afford to slip.

Countdown to Midterm Elections: 6 Days

Who is Mike Pence?

7-30Pence.jpg

Your DGB for today is read up on the current Veep, Mike Pence. It’s possible that because of the incandescent dumpster fire that is POTUS, you might not have given Pence a long, hard look. But you should. For one thing, he *could* be Vice President for six more years. For another, he could become President in a hurry if Trump is successfully impeached.

There is no easy way to say this, but Pence is a disaster waiting to happen. He’s a deeply backward-thinking religious zealot who yearns to put to death women who have abortions, and thinks science - not just climate science, but ALL SCIENCE - is a bunch of secular hooey. A Pence Vice Presidency is bad enough, especially if he’s pulling strings behind the scenes. A Pence presidency? Whoa, mama - that could be bad.

So, stuck between a rock and a hard place, the first thing we should do is arm ourselves with knowledge. Start with this not-at-all-terrifying opinion piece that came out this weekend. Then read this cheery report on Pence and LGBTQ+ rights by Human Rights Watch and round out your fun-filled adventure with this short item on Pence’s views on science.

Whether Pence gains the Oval Office or not, it’s a good idea to keep an eye on this guy. Some say he looks adoringly at Trump; we say he looks more like a predator eyeballing his next meal.

Rashida Tlaib for Congress

7-19RashidaTlaib.jpg

Your DGB for today is to help elect the first Muslim woman to Congress.

https://www.cnn.com/2018/07/03/politics/rashida-tlaib-congress/index.html

The pool of democrats running for Congress in Michigan’s 13th district is large, but one stands out. Attorney Rashida Tliab gives zero shits about contrived civility. Two years ago, she was arrested at a Trump rally in Detroit. She was dragged out while screaming at him to read the Constitution, like a freaking heroine. You can watch the video at the above link.

Republicans haven’t put up a candidate for John Conyers Jr.’s seat in this very blue district, so if Tliab wins the August 7th primary, she wins the race. Donate or volunteer below.

Day After the Primaries

Untitled design (32).jpg

Your DGB for today is to get over the primaries.

The primaries are done, the candidates have been decided. Did your candidate make it onto the ballot? Whether you are delighted, devastated, or somewhere in between about the fate of the person you supported it’s time to get your eyes on the prize. The Blue Wave won’t happen in November unless you start stumping for the Democrats in your states and districts right now. Your Grab today is to find out who they are, what they think and to start throwing your support their way.

Go to the candidates’ websites and sign up for their email and newsletter alerts.

Go to their Twitter and Facebook pages, like, follow and comment your support.

Order your yard signs, your bumper stickers and your other paraphernalia so you can start displaying ASAP.

Lastly, don’t forget to follow our weekend Grabs on specific candidates!

Time’s Up on The Hill

Untitled design.jpg

Your DGB for today is to contact Congress and tell them that we refuse to pay for their sexual harassment settlements.

Back in December, when the #MeToo movement was really starting to ramp up, we learned about at least four members of Congress who had sexually harassed women, and a few of them who paid off those sexual harassment victims with taxpayer money. Funny how we can’t find the money to pay for school books in low income areas, but we can easily pay for Congress members to have staffers be on “redhead patrol.” Weird.

Senator Gillibrand (D-NY) worked to pass legislation that would end the taxpayer funding of sexual harassment, but oddly it was cut at the last minute from the omnibus bill that is set to be voted on in the House on Thursday. It’s almost like men in the House and Senate don’t want us to know how many of them follow in our President’s footsteps. It’s not too late though! They still haven’t voted and we can still demand they add the legislation back into the omnibus bill. It is our right to know what we are paying for, and we sure as hell shouldn’t be paying for members of Congress to continue to sexually harass and victimize women. We aren’t putting up with this shit anymore and it’s got to stop at The Hill if we expect it to stop in our own work environments. Use your preferred contact method and tell your Congress Members to add the Congressional Harassment Reform Act back into the omnibus bill because Time’s Up for them too.

Really, A Gun Raffle?

Untitled design (6).jpg

Your DGB for this weekend is to criticize Kansas congressional candidate Tyler Tannahill’s gun raffle.

In unsurprising news, GOP candidate Tyler Tannahill kicked off his campaign on February 13th with an AR-15 giveaway contest. The following day, the Parkland shooting took place, reigniting a national conversation about gun control. If you guessed Tannahill’s campaign pulled the contest in light of events, we regret to inform you of your misplaced faith in humanity. They are full speed ahead and see no issue with their actions.

Contact him through his Facebook campaign page, @TannahillTweets, or by phone or email. If you’re comfortable with it, also feel free to sign up to win the weapon. With any luck, we may be able to derail the entire giveaway with ineligible and uninterested entries clogging up the drawing process.

#MeToo Bill

untitled_design__31__720.jpg

Your DGB for today is to contact your Senators and Representatives and tell them to vote yes on the #MeToo Bill.

The #MeToo movement has swept the United States and has touched everywhere from Hollywood to corporate America, conversations at the dinner table to Capitol Hill. What makes the sexual harassment especially horrific in DC is their reporting policy, which sounds a lot like an attempt to shut down all conversations and dissuade reporting. You can find out more about the policy here: http://thehill.com/homenews/sunday-talk-shows/361845-speier-congressional-reporting-system-for-sexual-harassment-set-up

Two female Democratic lawmakers have plans to change all that and have authored the ME TOO Congress Act. Representative Jackie Speier of California and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of New York want to require mandatory sexual harassment training and to reform the current way of reporting to make it easier for the victims and less protective of the accused.

Today, you’ll use Resistbot to demand more from our lawmakers. It’s time these perpetrators pay for their actions. #MeToo

NRA Donation Recipients

11-10nra_1024.jpg

Your DGB for today is to find out if your representatives are in the pocket of the NRA.

Who’s pulling the finance strings of your elected officials? MoveOn now maintains a state-by-state list of NRA campaign donations here:

https://front.moveon.org/has-your-member-of-congress-received-campaign-support-from-the-nra/#.WgRUsYZryt8

Once you’ve identified the sellouts, feel free to shame them by phone, email, carrier pigeon, in-person visit, or tweet, for bowing to money over ethics. DGB staff enjoy the irony of telling them to “choose life,” which we will spend our weekend doing.

Take Trump’s First 100 Days Survey

Your DGB for today is to troll the GOP’s online survey asking for opinions on Trump’s first 100 days.

They won’t hold town halls. Their voicemail boxes are full. They ignore your emails. But they posted a survey asking what you think of Trump’s first 100 days and, remarkably, every multiple choice question allows for you to type your own “Other” response. We all know these surveys likely go nowhere and the results are probably manipulated, if released at all, right? Well, we won’t be answering their contrived queries anyway. Today, you’ll answer every single question with “He should release his tax returns.”

You will need to put in an email address, full name, and zip code. Here’s a way to anonymize your email address.

So, when you encounter a question like:

How do you feel about Trump building the wall?

  1. Tremendously approve!

  2. Disapprove because I am a stupid liberal who watches fake news!

  3. No opinion. Sad!

  4. Other

Use that opportunity to tell them we DO care about his tax returns.
