Russian Collusion

Proof of Collusion

Looking for a little feel-good holiday reading? You came to the wrong place. Ain’t no Hallmark channel shit around these parts.

Your DGB for today is to read Proof of Collusion by Seth Abramson, a chronology of Donald Trump’s work with Russia from the 1980’s to present day.

Collusion in Real Time

Your DGB for today is to contact your members of congress by phone, email, or pony express if necessary, and demand that they begin impeachment proceedings against the 45th president of the United States.

Today we all watched in stunned horror as Trump stood next to a man who orchestrated a coordinated attack against our country and its democratic process, and acted as an accessory after the fact.  In a joint presser with Vladimir Putin that will undoubtedly go down in history, Trump denied that Russia was behind the interference in the 2016 presidential elections. He refused to condemn Putin to his face. He called his own justice department’s efforts a “witch hunt” (congratulations, by the way, if you got BINGO with that one). He praised Putin, he blamed the strained relationship between Russia and the US on the US press and the previous president. Even when Putin kindasorta admitted he did it, Trump buckled, kowtowed, and kissed ass. He blamed - and I know this will come as a big surprise - Hillary.  There’s no way around it: Donald Trump’s collusion with Russia was on display in real time, on televisions around the world. The former director of the CIA, John Brennan tweeted, “Donald Trump’s press conference performance in Helsinki rises to & exceeds the threshold of ‘high crimes & misdemeanors.’ It was nothing short of treasonous.”

Grabbers, burn up those phone lines. Make Resistbot work so hard it cries “uncle.” Tweet until your thumbs cramp. This is not normal, this is not okay, and this man needs to GO. Impeachment now.

Time to Ring the Shame Bell, Again

Your DGB for today is to contact Republican members of the House Intelligence Committee and ask them why they are protecting the president and not the people and the Constitution of the United States of America.

Yesterday, House Intel Committee members ended their investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, saying there wasn’t evidence of collusion. This, is despite the fact that the intelligence community says there was definitely something going on and Russia was most definitely trying to get Trump elected. You can read more about their findings, or lack thereof, here:

We want you to contact Republican members of the House Intel Committee today and urge them to put country over party and reopen the investigation. Ring that shame bell, and ring it loud. I mean, are we really going to let a committee led by Devin Nunes, who was supposed to recuse himself, end an investigation that hasn’t even interviewed key figures like Papadopoulos, Michael Flynn, or Paul Manafort yet? You can find members of the House Intel Committee here:

It should also be noted that the Senate Intel Committee is still moving forward with their investigation, despite the fact their House colleagues spines just slipped right out of their backs.

Russia Sanctions

Your DGB for today is to contact your representatives about enforcement of the Russian sanctions bill.

It doesn’t take a stable genius to see that Russia helped Trump win the 2016 election in exchange for some form of leniency with regard to U.S. relations, but even DGB staff didn’t think the administration would be so brazen about their Russian sympathies.

Even after Congress passed a sanctions package that was signed into law by the President, the Department of Justice has just unilaterally decided not to enforce it. Read the confusing justification for this here.

On top of this, it’s now being reported that at least one Russian spy official subject to 2014 sanctions had recent conversations with CIA Director Mike Pompeo, who again, warned afterward that Russia will continue to meddle in U.S. elections. But, hey, who needs sanctions, right?

There are a few ways Congress can handle the Executive Branch ignoring their will. Rolling over and taking this blatant disregard for their power as a branch of government, however, is not one of them.

Today, you’ll use Resistbot to pressure your members of Congress to take immediate action on this consolidation of power by Putin’s buddy.

It's Time to Talk Impeachment

Your DGB for today is to sign this petition to start impeachment proceedings in congress against Donald J. Trump.

It’s been a year and some change since the election and Trump has been every inch the disaster we feared he’d be: deeply beholden to Russia; bigoted against people of color, LGBTQ, disabled, women, the poor and more; an embarrassment on the world stage; terrifyingly casual about provoking our enemies; and seemingly determined to turn our country into an authoritarian state.

It’s time to call for impeachment, for reasons too numerous to list. But colluding with our enemies, undermining democracy, and being a sexual predator are a good start. Since coal is a dying industry anyway, let’s fill #45’s stocking with best wishes for an early retirement (and possible jail time) instead.
