Your DGB for today is to thank a Black Woman.
No, we don’t mean that we want you to walk up to the nearest Black woman yelling THANK YOU! Or posting on Facebook or Twitter or Instagram or any other social media platform. We want you to take real action toward elevating and amplifying the position and voices of our nation’s Black women. They consistently show up, stand up, fight for and support the country through their vote, their skills, their voices and their lives. How? Well, several articles with really good suggestions have been written on the topic. We suggest perusing them first. Go here to Upworthy, Bustle, the New York Times. Most of the lists boil down to these items:
Support them with your money. Buy or invest in a Black woman-owned business.
Support them with your vote. Support and vote for Black women candidates.
Support them with your influence. Everyone has a sphere of power even if it’s small, use it to lift Black women.
Support them with your ears. Listen when they speak, read their blog posts and articles they write, buy their books, read their news articles, purchase their work. Really listen to and absorb what they are saying, even if it stings. Luvvie Ajayi had a great TED talk recently about getting comfortable with being uncomfortable. Listen to it. https://www.ted.com/talks/luvvie_ajayi_get_comfortable_with_being_uncomfortable/up-next
