Proof of Collusion

11-21ProofofCollusion.jpg

Looking for a little feel-good holiday reading? You came to the wrong place. Ain’t no Hallmark channel shit around these parts.

Your DGB for today is to read Proof of Collusion by Seth Abramson, a chronology of Donald Trump’s work with Russia from the 1980’s to present day.

Don’t forget to use Amazon Smile to support your favorite charity every time you buy.

Happy Birthday, Mr. President

6-7HappyBirthday.jpg

Your DGB for today is to send Donald Trump the jolliest birthday wishes you can think of for his 72nd next week.

Trump’s birthday is June 14th and it just wouldn’t be right if we didn’t wish him the best on his birthday. Thankfully, he’s been very accommodating, giving us an open forum to write our feelings all out on his official birthday card.

So feel free to let loose today and tell him how you REALLY feel. We’re sure the comments will be censored, but sometimes just typing it out helps you feel a smidge better.

Making Moves for the Massacre

4-10Mueller.jpg

Your DGB for today is to make your plans for the impending firing of Robert Mueller.

Yesterday, the FBI raided Michael Cohen’s office, and hoo boy is Trump big mad about. You can watch the press conference where he rants about it here: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/09/us/politics/trump-fbi-raid-michael-cohen.html  Some of the highlights include him forgetting how long he has been president and referring to it as “what feels like a very long time.” He calls the the entire investigation a witch hunt multiple times, and even quotes a made up reporter saying the the reporter said “this is ridiculous.” He EVEN rants about Hillary Clinton and how no one is looking at her crimes (psssttt… they already did and didn’t find anything, little buddy.)

Today we want you to sign up for the rapid response team with the March for Truth to be prepared to mobilize immediately if and when Trump fires Mueller. You can also sign up to receive a text from them when the inevitable happens. Sign up now, get your signs ready, and be prepared to take to the streets. https://www.marchfortruth.info/mueller-rapid-response/

Now, more than ever, we need to rally around Mueller.

Sinclair Broadcasting

4-2Sinclair.jpg

Your DGB for today is to check out this list of TV stations https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_stations_owned_or_operated_by_Sinclair_Broadcast_Group and if your local station turns out to be part of the Sinclair Broadcasting Group, please boycott the hell out of it.

What is Sinclair Broadcast Group and why should you care? As is more and more common in this day and age, we must turn to comedy for the answer. Last Week Tonight with John Oliver has a brilliant segment on the company that explains what you need to know. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvtNyOzGogc Basically, Sinclair is a right-leaning, pro-Trump outfit that owns an alarming number of local outlets, and it is sneakily inserting its agenda into TV news across the country. A deal in the works to merge with another broadcast group makes Sinclair more relevant - and dangerous - than ever. https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2017/10/ready-for-trump-tv-inside-sinclair-broadcastings-plot-to-take-over-your-local-news-1/

Recently, Sinclair sent a script to its affiliates that it required newscasters to deliver. https://www.snopes.com/news/2017/07/11/sinclair-broadcast-group-propaganda/  The script has your local anchors delivering a speech that decries the current rise of “fake news” and vowing to offer a more balanced view. The trouble is, that what they are calling fake news is the same stuff Trump calls fake news. You know - FACTS. This mandatory announcement sounds okay on the surface, but actually signals a sort of Trumpist “both-sides-ism.” And as we all know, sometimes there really AREN’T good people on both sides.

So we’re asking you to boycott these Sinclair-owned stations. Let them know you won’t be watching, and why. If your market has a competitor, give them some love. And share your actions on social media.

No Nukes

10-24nonukes_720.jpg

Your DGB for today is to call your members of Congress and urge them to support H.R. 669, a bill aimed at preventing Donald J. Trump from killing us all.

In the ‘60s and ‘70s, “no nukes” was a rallying cry against nuclear power plants. In 2017, it’s an entreaty to POTUS: “Pretty please, don’t push the button one night in the middle of a temper tantrum about football players or war widows, or a particularly bad golf game.” But, because appealing to reason rarely works with this dude, Congressman Ted Lieu (CA-D) and Senator Ed Markey (MA-D) have introduced a bill that would prevent Trump (or any president) from launching a nuclear-first strike without congressional approval. Since most of us don’t have a cold war-era bunker in our back yard, we think this is more than sensible legislation. Since we have a president who has demonstrated an inability to behave like a rational grown-up, we think the time is NOW. Seriously, folks - this is scary. Please call your representatives and senators to ask them to support H.R. 669.

You can use Countable, Resistbot, or a good, old-fashioned phone call to let your reps know that we think a single unstable man in the Oval office shouldn’t have first-strike capability.

Gold Star Families

10-19goldstarfamilies_720.jpg

Your DGB for today is to donate a couple bucks to one or both of these gold star-related charitable efforts: this scholarship fund for the children of Sgt. La David T. Johnson and/or AmericasGoldStarFamilies.org

Donald Trump is screwing up. One of the most important jobs he has as Commander-in-Chief is extending the condolences of a grateful nation to the family of service-members who are killed in action. For a man who ran on being such a friend to the military and recently has had so much to say on the topic of patriotism, his behavior is baffling. POTUS took twelve days to publically acknowledge the sacrifice of four soldiers who died in Niger. When he finally called the pregnant widow of Army Sgt. La David T. Johnson, he made an agonizing moment worse. Failing to mention the Green Beret’s name even once, POTUS made strangely insensitive comments to Myeshia Johnson on her loss. She and the rest of the family were devastated.

This isn’t an isolated incident. Gold star widow Whitney Hunter recounted how, after her husband, Army Sgt. Jonathan Hunter, was killed this spring in Afghanistan, the White House reached out to let her know POTUS would be calling in person soon to offer his condolences. She waited, but he never did. Army Cpl. Dillon Baldridge’s father recalled that Trump did call him about the loss of his son, and after hearing of his financial straits, promised to write him a personal check. This generous offer was never fulfilled. We ask you - who DOES this to grieving family members, let alone the families of people who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country??

Since the CIC can’t seem to do right by these folks, the American public will have to step in.

Demand Congress Protect Dreamers

IMG_1999.jpg

Your DGB for today is to contact your Member of Congress and tell him or her you want Congress to protect “Dreamers” when Trump ends DACA.

True to form, Trump has signaled that he’s going to end Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. This Obama-era immigration policy was designed to protect and aid undocumented immigrants who came here as kids. Since the current occupant of the Oval Office seems to want to undo everything good that #44 did, we are dismayed, but not surprised.

In the wake of this news, Congress has a chance to pass legislation that will address the same issue. We need Republicans and Democrats to work together on this.

Please also check out Daily Grab Back’s demonstration calendar for upcoming protests regarding the cancellation of DACA.

Midas With the Bad Touch

9-1presidentialvacations_720.jpg

Your DGB for today is to call your representatives and tell them that you support Rep. Adam Schiff’s amendment that would stop the Secret Service from paying any business owned or operated by Trump.

Trump is no King Midas and all his weekend golfing and vacations at his own properties are eating up the funds Secret Service funds for protecting the President. More than 1,000 of their agents have hit their salary cap that is supposed to last the entire year. And because it is the United States’ responsibility to provide protection for the President and his family, many agents are going to have to keep doing their job without getting paid.

Rep. Adam Schiff of California, might have a solution. Since many of the trips benefit Trump, not only personally, but also financially, why don’t we cut off the funds he would get from the Secret Service having to pay for staying in his hotels, resorts, and even paying for the use of his golf carts? The SS has had to fork over 60,000 dollars alone just to rent golf carts at the President’s personal golf courses in order to keep up with his weekend addiction. Contact your Reps and tell them enough is enough. The President of the Unites States should not be padding his bank account, all while those who are sworn to protect him aren’t getting paid.

Would You Qualify for Immigration?

Your DGB for today is to take this quiz to see if you would qualify to immigrate to the United States under Trump’s new merit based immigration bill.

Donald Trump, along with Senators Tom Cotton (R-AR) and David Perdue (R-GA), can’t wait to upend United States immigration policy. Planned changes would halve green cards issued per year and use some pretty bizarre measurements to judge your value as an immigrant/human being. lf you’ve won an olympic medal, you get 25 points! In order to immigrate here, you would have to meet the minimum of 30 points. (Heads up- DGB staff did not do well. Sad!) Read more about the bill here: http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2017/aug/2/trump-backs-immigration-bill-cut-green-card-limits/

Today we want you to take the quiz and share your results with us, as well as your friends. Get the word out that this proposed law is pretty damn classist, as well as cruel, as it also plans to limit permanent resident refugees down to 50,000 a year. The White House says that number is right in line with yearly averages, but this graph from Pew Research begs to differ.

Stephen Miller may not believe in the poem on the Statue of Liberty, but DGB does.

“Give me your tired, your poor,

Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,

I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

Postcards from the Edge: America the Beautiful

Your DGB for today is to send POTUS a postcard from your corner of the United States, to remind him to have just a crumb of pride for the country he is supposed to represent on the world stage.

#45 has always made his disdain for our country and it’s people quite clear. His inauguration speech described the US as some kind of post-apocalyptic wasteland. Recent transcripts of a call Trump made to Mexico’s president back in January show that he referred to New Hampshire as a “drug-infested den.” And finally, it was revealed this month that our President told a bunch of fellow golfers at his course in Bedminster, NJ, that the White House is “a real dump.” Yes, really.

We know our country has its share of problems. We even concede there may be plumbing issues at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. But, come on - show a little respect for America, Donny.

If you would like to let POTUS know what our country is truly like, please send a postcard depicting the best your city or state has to offer, to:

The White House

1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW

Washington, DC 20500

Please also consider posting a pic of your postcard on social media with the hashtag, #postcardsfromUS.

Trump is No Boy Scout

Your DGB for today is to contact the Boy Scouts and let them know that playing along with Donald J. Trump’s shenanigans is unacceptable.

At a Jamboree on Monday, POTUS addressed the Scouts as they’ve (probably) never been addressed before. He rambled on about his disastrous health care bill to a crowd of 40,000 (obviously, mostly kids), waxed nostalgic about sexual escapades a rich pal had on his yacht back in the day, railed against the “Fake News,” and encouraged the crowd to boo former President Obama. Letting Trump lead them in unscoutsmanlike behavior is not a good look for the organization, especially since reversing their stance on LGBTQ+, they’ve been a pretty laudable outfit. If you want to tell them what you think of their judgment on this matter, they can be found @boyscouts on Twitter, www.scouting.org  online, or 972-580-2000 by phone.

We know, we know - Trump behaving badly? Of course, he's a lost cause. The Scouts, however, have proved they can do better when their feet are held to the campfire. Let’s let them know that tacitly approving of bullying behavior really toasts our marshmallows.  And hey, fellas, maybe not let President Pussygrabber address a bunch of impressionable kids next time?

Armchair Psychology

Your DGB for today is to delve into what, exactly, is wrong with Trump.

An actual diagnosis remains elusive, but there has been much speculation surrounding Trump’s mental fitness to serve as president or even just a functioning adult.

Since 1973, mental health professionals had adhered to the Goldwater Rule, discouraging diagnosis of public figures they aren’t treating, which was probably a generally good idea until the 2016 election cycle, when experts began speaking out for the safety of the country. Psychology Today now has a Trump page: https://www.psychologytoday.com/basics/president-donald-trump featuring such theories as Trump is a Four Year Old

In addition to the above, you’ll read this Atlantic article from last year, written by Dan P. McAdams, professor of psychology at Northwestern University. Yes, it’s okay to shed a few tears that not enough people listened back then. Dan probably does.

Some days, we at DGB don’t give a crap why Trump does what he does. Other times, our brains crave explanation, as it means we might be able to predict and to tailor our resistance response accordingly. Today, we indulge.

March for Truth

Your DGB for today is to prepare for the March for Truth taking place Saturday, June 3rd.

The March for Truth is a worldwide demonstration with a goal of a fair and impartial Russiagate investigation and for the “restoration of faith in our electoral system and the Office of the Presidency.” Organizers are calling for continued comprehensive congressional investigations in addition to the independent inquiry headed by Robert Mueller, and the release of pertinent financial documents, such as Trump’s tax returns.

The best way to get involved is to lace up your kicks and attend a local march. Find one near you on the official website or on our list of demonstrations.

You can also donate to the organization effort and find shareable graphics to promote awareness on social media.

Lastly, here you can find our printable protest poster.

Public Commentary Period on National Monument Review

Your DGB for today is to let the federal government know that we, the people, value the existence and protection of our national monuments.

In April, President Trump signed yet another executive order directing newly-minted Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke to “review” national monuments designated since 1996. He claims the goal is to prevent or correct “abuses of power” and federal government overreach. Opponents suggest the real reason is that he has his eye on natural resources currently sitting under protected land, such as fossil fuels under Bears Ears National Monument in Utah.

Now the Department of the Interior has opened up a public comments period and we are asking you to let them have it with both barrels about plundering our pristine wild places. Read this excellent piece on how to effectively craft your comments, and either comment online as we linked above, or mail it to them directly, preferably before May 26th.

If you have any postcards left over from the last time you gave this administration a piece of your mind? Break ‘em out (or use ours) and tell the government to keep their grubby hands off America, the Beautiful.

Those Who Fail To Learn From History

Your DGB for today is to put into motion a repeat of US history.

The Executive Branch is barreling towards a foregone conclusion that our country has seen before. Many of us weren’t even a twinkle in our parents’ eyes during the Nixon administration, so here’s a quick Watergate rundown: Basically, Nixon tried to hang on to power for as long as possible by compounding his criminal acts and removing anyone who got too close to the truth about them. He didn’t actually fire his FBI Director. Louis Patrick Gray was complicit in the burglary coverup and his Assosciate FBI Director ended up being Deep Throat, which was pretty much the craziest thing that had ever happened in US politics until November 8, 2016. By the time Nixon’s dumpster of an administration was fully engulfed in the flames of scandal, the investigation was far enough along that a Special Prosecutor had been appointed. This man was Archibald Cox. When Nixon fired him in an event known as The Saturday Night Massacre, it was a public relations nightmare. Things really spiraled after that, and we all know the ending.

Today, you’ll change your profile picture on social media to the above image of Nixon, reminding everyone in your circle that history is doomed to repeat itself. Additionally, you’ll be sure to pressure your representatives to push for a special prosecutor. Trump will need someone else to fire soon, and we’re ready for his very own Archibald Cox to come onstage.

It’s not the crime that will get you, it’s the cover-up. And Trump’s cover-up is just as transparent and desperate as the original Crook-In-Chief. Just as America did during Watergate, we’re not letting him get away with any of it.

Your Tax Dollars

Your DGB for today is to continue to resist 45 by calling at least three members of Congress about the government shutdown Trump is planning in September, and the current tax plan. We also want you to take a quiz to find out if the plan will affect you.

45 continues to threaten to shut down our government and make large budget cuts to organizations that help the poor, all while padding the pockets of the ultra rich with his new tax plan. Although a budget plan was recently passed, Trump has said we need a “good” government shutdown in September. Confused by what a good government shutdown is? So are we, which is why we must continue to resist.

You can find your representatives here. Take this quiz to find out if the Trump Tax Plan will affect you.

If you are unsure of what to say, we have created a few sample scripts you can use:

“I do not support millions of my tax dollars going towards building a wall or used towards military spending. Instead, I want my tax dollars to support (INSERT THE NAME OF ANY PROGRAMS YOU SUPPORT).”

“I’d like to know what (NAME OF YOUR REP) is planning to do to prevent a government shutdown in September. I’d like to receive a phone call back at _____. Thank you for your time.”

Reorganizing the Executive Branch

Your DGB for today is to share your thoughts, feelings, and ideas with the White House. That’s right, the White House is asking for input, specifically on how to reorganize the Executive Branch. This is an opportunity to share your views.

The survey does not list what the various agencies mentioned actually do, but we have a link that may help. Rest assured, you know more than Donald Trump.

While it’s tempting to simply ask for Trump’s resignation, sharing ideas on “how the government can be better organized to work for the American people,” is a good thing. And who’s to say they won’t use one? If Jared Kushner can advise the president, anyone can. Or, if you’re like some of us, an old fashioned trolling of Trump is always fun and they’ve given us essay questions, so do your thing. You have until June 12th to air all your grievances and make your demands, er...suggestions.

Take Trump’s First 100 Days Survey

Your DGB for today is to troll the GOP’s online survey asking for opinions on Trump’s first 100 days.

They won’t hold town halls. Their voicemail boxes are full. They ignore your emails. But they posted a survey asking what you think of Trump’s first 100 days and, remarkably, every multiple choice question allows for you to type your own “Other” response. We all know these surveys likely go nowhere and the results are probably manipulated, if released at all, right? Well, we won’t be answering their contrived queries anyway. Today, you’ll answer every single question with “He should release his tax returns.”

You will need to put in an email address, full name, and zip code. Here’s a way to anonymize your email address.

So, when you encounter a question like:

How do you feel about Trump building the wall?

  1. Tremendously approve!

  2. Disapprove because I am a stupid liberal who watches fake news!

  3. No opinion. Sad!

  4. Other

Use that opportunity to tell them we DO care about his tax returns.

Become a Citizen Scientist with Crowd-Sourced Research

Your DGB for today is to check out the Citizen Science Alliance .  and find a project to which you’d be willing to contribute. The Citizen Science Alliance works to put research scientists together with ordinary people, like you and me, to crowd-source science. Choose from a list of active projects all over the world and get nerdy with us. Some of the projects require you to examine images: rain forest canopies, gravitational waves, or traces of meteor activity; while others will only require a tiny fraction of your computer’s processing power to analyze data on a range of research projects. Still others need your eagle eyes on wildlife cams or help in transcribing oral history.  Do as much or as little as you like. Science is currently under attack in the US. Anti-science positions like climate change denial, creationism, anti-vaccination, and anti-stem cell research are commonplace among policy makers. These science deniers are in all levels of politics; starting local, like the board of education, and climbing all the way up Capitol Hill. We now have a President-elect who thinks climate change is a hoax perpetrated by the Chinese, and who is tapping anti-science figures left and right for cabinet positions. Trump’s pick for head of the Department of the Interior, Rep. Ryan Zinke, doesn’t take climate change seriously. Neither does former Gov. TX Rick Perry, his pick for Secretary of Energy. The proposed head of the Environmental Protection Agency, Scott Pruitt, is a climate change denier. In short, Trump’s administration has the potential to be the most anti-science and anti-environment cabinet in a long time...maybe ever. This should scare the pants off of all of us, if you’re prone to wearing pants. In addition to this DGB you can also vote for pro-science candidates in the mid-term elections and support organizations that defend and value science, like the ones outlined in this article , in addition to the National Center for Science Education    and Union of Concerned Scientists . As the wise Bill Nye says “Science Rules!”
