Not Cool, Matt Gaetz

Manuel Oliver lost his son, Joaquin, in the Parkland, Florida school shooting. On Wednesday, he attended the House Judiciary Committee’s hearing on gun violence with Frank Guttenberg, who also lost his daughter Jamie that day.

Garbage Rep. Matt Gaetz (FL-1) decided this hearing was a good time to start word vomiting about border walls. In response, Manuel Oliver began yelling at him, which we think was pretty human and relatable. Gaetz then asked committee Chairman Jerry Nadler if Guttenberg and Oliver could be removed. Nadler declined.

When you find yourself at odds with a grieving parent, you may be on the wrong side of an issue.

Your DGB for this weekend is to give Gaetz hell using the contact information found below.

GTFO, Ralph Northam

Good Monday morning, Grabbers! DGB is back after a month-long hiatus! We promised you fresh hell in the first week of February and we, unfortunately, won’t disappoint today.

In case you were in an underground bunker over the weekend (which we honestly wouldn’t question at this point), it turns out Virginia’s Democratic governor is a racist. Don’t make us type it out, just read about it here.

Your DGB for today is to contact Ralph Northam’s office and demand that he resign.

Whitaker Should Recuse

Your DGB for today is to call for Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker’s immediate recusal from the Mueller investigation.

Trump, in a particularly Trumpian move, fired racist Keebler elf Jeff Sessions before the ink had even dried on our ballot bubbles. He’s been frothing at the mouth to fire Sessions ever since Sessions recused himself from overseeing an investigation into the very campaign he was a part of. It was actually the right and ethical move, but Trump doesn’t care about that. After he canned Sessions, Trump made yet another problematic appointment - Matthew Whitaker to Acting AG. Whitaker ALSO has ethical issues that prevent him from being the right person to oversee the Mueller investigation. In this case, his conflicts of interest include his close ties to Sam Clovis (a key witness) and his previous statements about how to starve the special counsel of funds.

Clearly, he must also recuse himself. Let’s flood the Dept. of Justice with Americans calling for him to do just that. Call the DoJ at (401) 709-5000 and register your concerns.

Make A Voting Plan

If you haven’t voted early, your DGB for today is to make a voting plan for tomorrow.

It’s been two years since Trump was elected, can you believe it? Kudos to you for enduring this nightmare! Now, we have a chance to constrain his power by voting blue across the country and down every ticket. Plan to fit voting into your day tomorrow before work, at lunchtime, or at the end of your day. Also plan how you will get to the polls. Here you’ll find an array of discounted ways to travel tomorrow. Happy Midterms!

Countdown to Midterm Elections: 1 Day

Keep Protests Free

Your DGB for today is to tell the government we won’t give up our right to peaceful protest.

In a move that flew mostly under the radar, the Trump Administration has proposed Parks Department regulations that limit demonstrations near the White House and on the National Mall. Read the full ACLU article here:

The regulation is open for public input at the link below. Comments must be submitted before midnight tonight!

Check It Out: Your Voter Registration

The clock is winding down, Grabbers. We are in the 4th quarter, the 9th inning, the third act, the final lap. The midterms are almost here and we want to avoid the use of provisional ballot tomfoolery as much as we can. Today is the LAST DAY to register in many states. Your DGB is to double check that you are registered. And if you are in a red state and/or one of those problematic states that likes to purge voters for no reason, we want you to check AND pester at least one friend to check as well. Georgia voters get a special task, check the link below to see if you are one of the unlucky (we say in a voice dripping with sarcasm) voters that got purged recently.

Separated Children

Happy Monday, there are still hundreds of immigrant children living in tent cities after being separated from their parents this past summer. Your DGB for today is to help KIND to advocate for these traumatized little ones.

Kids In Need of Defense has been helping migrant children in many ways over the past decade, but one of their core missions has become crucially necessary in recent months. Founded by Microsoft and Angelina Jolie, KIND’s network of legal experts make sure each unaccompanied child has excellent representation in court. Their educational resources are extensive, which you can find here:

If that’s too overwhelming (it’s been a tough weekend, we know) you can simply donate here:!/donation/checkout

No Hearings, No Vote

Your DGB for today is to tell your senators we need a full FBI investigation of Brett Kavanaugh before any hearings take place.

As of the writing of this Grab, a third accuser has gone public with various appalling claims against the SCOTUS nominee. The time for negotiations, political posturing, and victim-blaming is over. We need a full investigation into Kavanaugh’s history or he needs to withdraw his name immediately, as all ten Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee insisted in a letter to Trump today.

Use Resistbot to contact your senators, ESPECIALLY if you live in Alaska, Arizona, Maine, or Tennessee, and tell them this process needs to come to a screeching halt.

Your DGB for today is to encourage your representatives to pass the Ending the Monopoly of Power Over Workplace Harassment through Education and Reporting Act.

This article explains the act well, which would outlaw the use of non-disclosure agreements in employment, thereby combating the secrecy in which workplace harassment thrives.

Use Resistbot to push your members of Congress.

Give Alex Jones the Heave-Ho off Twitter

Your DGB for today is to work with Shannon Coulter and pressure Twitter to boot Alex Jones off their platform. Coulter, originator of the #GrabYourWallet consumer-based activism hashtag, has instructions on how to block every Fortune 500 company with a Twitter presence. While platforms like Youtube and Facebook have already banned chaos agent and all-round terrible human Alex Jones, Twitter has been dragging its feet. Coulter thinks if they feel the pinch financially, they can be persuaded to follow suit.

If you are somehow unfamiliar with Jones and his tinfoil hat jamboree, Infowars, here is a chilling introduction to the fellow:

This guy does not need an additional outlet for his lunatic and dangerous conspiracy theories. Let Twitter know we mean business about shutting him down.

A Big NOPE to Confederate Flag Manufacturing

Your DGB for today is to shame one of the last makers of confederate flags.

In 2015, after a Charleston, SC church shooting perpetrated by a white supremacist, many major retailers like Amazon and Walmart stopped carrying confederate flags, leaving Huntsville Alabama Flag and Banner to take over the market. What followed in our country was a national debate on the removal of confederate imagery like monuments. As you may have heard, we just passed the one year anniversary of the violent Charlottesville rally over such a monument, after which Alabama Flag and Banner saw a surge in sales of their flags. In every political movement, there are companies who capitalize on sentiment, but this is over the line. If people want confederate flags, they should have to sew them with their own racist fingers. Let this company know that their status as the Last Rebel Flag Maker is not something to be proud of.

Lobby Mike Coffman

Your DGB for today is to save a little Colorado girl from deportation.

Four year old Angela Becerra is the adopted daughter of two US citizens: Amy Becerra, who works for the State of Colorado, and Marco Becerra, who works for the federal government. Angela was adopted in Peru in 2017, when the Becerras owned a home there, and her citizenship has been in limbo ever since. It took 13 months for her visa application to be approved and now her immigration case has been denied. Her visa expires on August 31st, at which point she will be at risk of deportation.

The family has visited Rep. Mike Coffman (R-CO-6) and asked for help. Keep in mind that Coffman is a facing a tough reelection this November, which could potentially shape the way he handles this crisis. Today, you’ll contact his office and make sure he knows we won’t stand for any outcome other than this family unit staying legally and permanently intact.

#DGB #TBT Bail Out

If you missed yesterday’s Grab, check it out here:

Like Kalief Browder’s, many a story could have a very different end if an accused person’s family is able to make bail after arrest. Your DGB for this Throwback Thursday is to donate to bail funds or volunteer to work at ending the cash bail enterprise in the United States.

Just a Spoonful of Sugar

6-27SpoonfulofSugar.pxm .jpg

Your DGB for today is to save a bee. David Attenborough, narrator of docu-series like Planet Earth and Blue Planet, urged everyone recently to take the simple step of putting out a teaspoon of sugar water for a tired bee. The sugar water may be enough to revive the bee and allow it to return home to its colony. Why? Because however the fate of the bees goes, so goes the human diet.

Modern agriculture has come a long, long way since our ancestors first started planting cereal crops in the Fertile Crescent 13,000 years ago. But one thing that hasn’t changed is our reliance on natural pollinators like bees. Unfortunately, climate change, pollution, and habitat destruction have wreaked havoc on bee populations. About a third of the crops we eat rely to a certain extent on bee pollination. While the extinction of bees might not mean the extinction of all of us, it would have a tremendous impact on our global food system.

It’s a small act, but sometimes small acts multiplied many times are what make the difference. Grab a spoon, won’t you?

Are You Registered to Vote?

Your DGB for today is to confirm that you are, indeed, registered to vote in the state, county, and city in which you intend to cast your ballot in November.

Today the Supreme Court handed down a decision that is Very Bad News for voting rights in the US. Husted (short for Husted, Ohio Sec. of State v. A. Philip Randolph Institute et al.) makes it legal for states to purge voter rolls of folks who’ve been infrequent voters. That’s it. These will be people who’ve committed no crime other than to fail to make it to the polls for some arbitrary number of elections. Of course, as is often the case with voter suppression, this will affect certain groups more than others - namely, people of color, senior citizens, folks with disabilities, and the poor.

This is a blow to our democratic process, but we can combat it. After confirming that you are still registered, see if friends or family need help checking their own status. Depending on your state, it may be important to do this well ahead of November. If someone finds that they need to register, help them with that, too.

It should be clear to everyone by now that not even Trump’s impeachment will be the end of this horrendous mess. The whole complicit GOP needs to be booted out of Washington and we can only do that if we all VOTE.

Happy Birthday, Mr. President

Your DGB for today is to send Donald Trump the jolliest birthday wishes you can think of for his 72nd next week.

Trump’s birthday is June 14th and it just wouldn’t be right if we didn’t wish him the best on his birthday. Thankfully, he’s been very accommodating, giving us an open forum to write our feelings all out on his official birthday card.

So feel free to let loose today and tell him how you REALLY feel. We’re sure the comments will be censored, but sometimes just typing it out helps you feel a smidge better.

Ditch Pruitt

Your DGB for today is to call for swamp monster Scott Pruitt to resign, pack up his knick-knacks and family photos, and carry his sad little cardboard box out the front door of the EPA forever.

Ever since he was confirmed as head of the Environmental Protection Agency, Pruitt has been the poster child for swampiness, for how to blithely disregard ethics and use your federal job to line your own pockets. You may recall that he spent thousands of tax dollars on first class plane travel so he could avoid the angry Americans in coach who wanted to know why the head of the EPA seems more interested in protecting fossil fuel interests than, you know, the environment. He rented a sweet condo in Washington, DC for fifty bucks a night from an industry lobbyist. Then he spent an ungodly sum on a not-at-all-paranoid soundproof booth in his office. He misused his taxpayer-funded security detail, used lights and sirens to get to date night with his wife a little faster, and spent tons of dough on fancy signing pens (even gold-plated POTUS only uses Sharpies). Just this weekend we learned that he may have used the promise of favorable policy from the EPA to get courtside seats from a coal industry exec. And finally, *at the very moment we were already writing this Grab,* the news of a NEW ethical violation broke. Apparently Pruitt was having his government-paid employees do personal errands for him, including house-hunting, and purchasing a used mattress from Trump International hotels. We’re flabbergasted by that one.

It is seriously time for this stinking pile of ethical violations to exit stage right. Make some noise. Call your members of congress, tweet your disapproval @EPA, let the administration know this guy’s expiration date is up.

(An aside to EPA building security - you might want to poke around in Scott’s box when he leaves. We wouldn’t put it past him to steal the office stapler.)

#DGB #TBT School Shootings are Real

Your DGB for this Throwback Thursday is to tell Trump to use his Twitter fingers to take down InfoWars.

More than a year has passed since this Grab asking Trump to disavow nutjob Alex Jones and his Sandy Hook conspiracy bullshit:

Since then, a Florida woman was sentenced to five months in prison for making death threats against the father of Noah Pozner, age six, who was murdered at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Alex Jones has championed the spread of conspiracy theories surrounding the tragedy, leading to incidents like this. Parents, including Pozner’s father, have now sued Jones for defamation.

As far as Jones’ relationship with Trump, it seems to be a bit strained these days, with Jones’s recent unhinged crying and swearing at the president over Syria strikes. Considering that Trump has flown into a Twitter rage at just about everyone from Ruth Bader Ginsburg to Kristen Stewart, surely he can denounce Alex Jones over his “Fuck you, Trump”- if not for the 20 schoolchildren and tortured survivors of the Sandy Hook Massacre that was DEFINITELY REAL, BTW- then for his own fragile ego.

Let @realDonaldTrump know that someone has insulted him. You can also contact your favorite White House correspondent and encourage them to ask Sarah Huckabee Sanders for Trump’s response to Jones and/or the recent lawsuit.

Making Moves for the Massacre

Your DGB for today is to make your plans for the impending firing of Robert Mueller.

Yesterday, the FBI raided Michael Cohen’s office, and hoo boy is Trump big mad about. You can watch the press conference where he rants about it here:  Some of the highlights include him forgetting how long he has been president and referring to it as “what feels like a very long time.” He calls the the entire investigation a witch hunt multiple times, and even quotes a made up reporter saying the the reporter said “this is ridiculous.” He EVEN rants about Hillary Clinton and how no one is looking at her crimes (psssttt… they already did and didn’t find anything, little buddy.)

Today we want you to sign up for the rapid response team with the March for Truth to be prepared to mobilize immediately if and when Trump fires Mueller. You can also sign up to receive a text from them when the inevitable happens. Sign up now, get your signs ready, and be prepared to take to the streets.

Now, more than ever, we need to rally around Mueller.
